THE BALVENIE - 12 years - Single Barrel First Fill - 47.8%
The Balvenie Distillery is located in the heart of the famous Speyside region in Scotland, world-renowned for the exceptional quality of its whiskies. It is one of the three prestigious distilleries situated on the iconic Dufftown site owned by the William Grant & Sons group, alongside Glenfiddich and Kininvie. Founded at the end of the 19th century, the distillery has a rich history that began when William Grant left his job at Mortlach to acquire land near Balvenie Castle. Construction began in 1886, and the first distillation took place on May 1, 1893, in the adapted 18th-century manor called Balvenie New House. Despite using the same water and malt as the three local distilleries, Balvenie stands out with a unique aromatic profile thanks to its specifically developed production methods. Long known as a key source for William Grant blends, Balvenie today strengthens its worldwide reputation with exceptional Single Malts, including a limited production for the famous Monkey Shoulder blend. The distillery is particularly recognized for its unparalleled mastery of finishes in various types of wood, giving each expression a distinct and refined character.
The house's Malt Master, David C. Stewart MBE, embodies excellence and innovation in the art of Scottish whisky. Joining the distillery in 1962 at only 17 years old, he has dedicated over 54 years to perfecting ancestral know-how while introducing revolutionary techniques, notably the famous "cask finishes" that have made Balvenie renowned today. His exemplary work earned him the prestigious MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) awarded by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2016, highlighting his major influence in the world of premium whisky.
This Single Barrel aged 12 years belongs to the exclusive The Balvenie Triple Cask range, which enhances balance and aromatic complexity through a unique marriage. Indeed, this whisky is crafted from whiskies matured simultaneously in the three most emblematic cask types: first and second fill Bourbon casks as well as Sherry casks. These different maturations are combined for a final aging in a large cask called a marrying tun, ensuring unmatched richness and depth of flavors.
