The Foursquare Rum Distillery (including Heritage Park) is located in the south of the beautiful Barbados. This iconic house belongs to the prestigious Seale family, with 5 generations of passionate expertise in the art of rum making since 1820. Recognized as one of the oldest and most respected trading houses in Barbados, its history is deeply rooted in rum tradition. At a time when Reginald Leon Seale, like other merchants, was prohibited by Barbados excise laws from selling rum directly to consumers, he brilliantly created in the early 20th century a distribution company in Bridgetown: the birth of the legendary brand R. L. Seale. Between 1962 and 1993, iconic rums such as ESA Field, Old Brigand, Taylor's Falernum, and Doorly's enriched this exceptional portfolio. To optimize their presence, ESA Field and Old Brigand focused on the local market, while Doorly became a flagship export brand. In 1995, under the visionary leadership of Sir David Seale, the family acquired an old sugar factory whose oldest building dates back to 1636, then in ruins. This intuition proved successful with the birth of the now famous Foursquare Distillery. Today, the modern facility includes a three-column still dedicated to light rums and a modern copper pot still reserved for more complex rums. All rums are distilled in small batches (generally 112 barrels), from fermented molasses, then aged under tropical climate. The aging takes place in small barrels of American white oak ex-Bourbon stored in huge open-walled warehouses, most of which come from a renowned distillery located in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
Redoutable belongs to the prestigious Exceptional Casks series of the Foursquare distillery. This exceptional rum is a refined blend of old rums, distilled both in pot still and column still. It benefits from an extended aging of 14 years under tropical climate, in ex-Bourbon barrels but also in barrels that previously contained Madeira wine, which gives it remarkable aromatic complexity and a unique character.
