THE BALVENIE - Caribbean Cask - 14 years - 43%
\nThe Balvenie Distillery is located in the prestigious Speyside region of Scotland, world-renowned for the quality of its whiskies. It is one of the three iconic distilleries situated on the Dufftown site, owned by the William Grant & Sons group, alongside Glenfiddich and Kininvie. After a career of nearly twenty years, William Grant left the Mortlach distillery and acquired land adjacent to Balvenie Castle. He then designed the plans for this unique distillery, with the foundation stone laid in autumn 1886. In early 1892, the transformation of an 18th-century manor, known as Balvenie New House, into a distillery began. After 15 months of meticulous work, the first distillation took place on May 1, 1893, at the Balvenie distillery. Although the three Dufftown distilleries share the same water source and malt, each maintains its own manufacturing processes, thus offering three single malt whiskies with distinct and remarkable character. Historically, Balvenie mainly supplied William Grant's blended whiskies. However, in recent years, demand for its authentic Single Malts has led production to prioritize these expressions, with a limited portion dedicated to the famous Monkey Shoulder blend. The distillery is renowned for its multiple expressions matured in various casks, notably ex-bourbon, sherry, and other rare woods.
\nThe Malt Master of Balvenie, David C. Stewart MBE, is an iconic figure in the Scottish whisky industry. A former apprentice since 1962 at the age of 17, he has devoted over 54 years of his life to distillation and aging. His mastery and innovations, particularly around the famous "cask finishes", have revolutionized the craft and influenced current distillery practices worldwide. In recognition of his outstanding work and influence on whisky tradition, David C. Stewart was awarded an MBE (Member of the British Empire) in 2016 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
\nThe Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 years old reveals an exceptional double maturation method. This single malt whisky aged for 14 years in traditional American oak casks, giving it richness and depth. It was then carefully transferred into casks that previously held an exclusive blend of Caribbean rums, carefully selected by David C. Stewart himself. These American oak casks, imbued with the unique character of Caribbean rums, impart warm, spicy, and fruity notes to the whisky, creating unparalleled aromatic complexity. The subtle finishing process allows the wood to express soft aromas of vanilla, caramel, and coconut, characteristic of the finest tropical-finished whiskies.
