EL DORADO - Gold Guyana - Port Mourant 1997 - 57.9%
El Dorado is an iconic brand produced by Demerara Distillers Limited within the prestigious Diamond Distillery, located in Guyana. The fascinating history of rum in Guyana dates back to the 1640s, with the importation of sugarcane by the first European settlers. By 1670, Demerara rum production had established itself thanks to distilleries set up in territories newly acquired by the British. In 1780, there were more than 300 independent distilleries, each developing its own unique rums, identified by distinct brands (SWR, ICBU, PM, EHP, LBI, AN). During the 19th century, colonial rum became popular through British blends, including the famous Old Vatted Demerara (OVD), mainly made with rum from the renowned Port Mourant distillery. However, in the 20th century, the fall in sugar prices and rising taxes caused a drastic consolidation of the sector, reducing the number of distilleries to nine by 1942. Today, the El Dorado range offers an exceptional collection of aged rums, while the distillery still preserves and uses the original wooden stills from the great sugar plantations of the 18th and 19th centuries. Aging in full tropical climate at ambient temperature enhances the aromatic richness and characteristic smoothness of these exceptional rums.
The Gold Guyana Port Mourant 1997 is distilled in the authentic double wooden still of Port Mourant, then patiently aged in old bourbon barrels to reveal an intense and refined aromatic profile. This rare rum is available in a limited edition, ideal for connoisseurs seeking excellence and the tradition of Guyanese rum.
