HIGHLAND PARK - 21 years - 46% ABV
Highland Park is the northernmost Single Malt distillery in Scotland, ideally located in Kirkwall on the famous Orkney Islands, offering a unique terroir. This exceptional geographical position places it closer to the Norwegian fjords than to the English capital, London, giving its whiskies a rare authenticity.
Founded in 1798 by Magnus Eunson, an extraordinary character who was a butcher and ecclesiastical officer by day but a daring smuggler by night, the distillery is steeped in a history rich with fascinating anecdotes. Ironically, the distillery property eventually passed into the hands of the justice officer who arrested Eunson for his illegal activities, highlighting the legend surrounding Highland Park.
Unlike many other distilleries, Highland Park malts and germinates its own barley, thus ensuring complete control over quality from the raw material. Its facilities include two "wash stills" (stills dedicated to the first distillation) and two "spirit stills" (stills for the second distillation), allowing an annual production of up to 2.5 million liters of exceptional spirits.
The Highland Park distillery is an integral part of the prestigious Edrington group and is an essential component of the renowned Famous Grouse blend, recognized worldwide.
The house's signature style is characterized by a delicate peat, subtly smoky and enhanced with a slightly sweet touch, creating a perfect aromatic balance that appeals to discerning enthusiasts. Rediscovered and brought back to prominence in 2019, the Highland Park 21 years has been patiently aged in a carefully crafted combination of first-fill European oak sherry casks, first-fill American oak sherry casks, and a meticulous selection of refill casks, imparting the whisky with unparalleled complexity and elegance.
