OLD PULTENEY - Huddart - 46%

Old Pulteney is one of the northernmost and most iconic distilleries in Scotland, globally recognized for its exceptional maritime whisky. Founded in 1826 in the historic region of Pulteneytown, a charming fishing village in Wick, by James Henderson, a visionary gentleman distiller, this distillery capitalized on the city's economic boom at the time. For many years, the distillery was accessible only by sea, with carefully selected barley imported and whisky exported worldwide. It was mothballed between 1930 and 1951 due to the global financial crisis and Prohibition in the United States, then reborn in 1958 thanks to a complete reconstruction, symbolizing the resilience of Scottish traditions.

The historic site uses an innovative water mill, built at the same time as Pulteneytown by renowned engineer Thomas Telford, originally intended to power a barley mill essential for whisky production. This mill is fed by Loch Hempriggs, located just 3 kilometers inland, ensuring pure and natural water for the malt. The distillery selects its unpeated malt from various regions of the UK, preserving a unique aromatic profile. Maturation relies on the use of American and Spanish oak casks, including those that previously held sherry ("ex-Sherry"), for unparalleled richness and complexity.

The distillery is part of the Inver House Distillers group, the Scotch Whisky division of International Beverage of Thailand, which also manages the prestigious distilleries Balblair, Knockdhu, Speyburn, and Balmenach, ensuring exceptional expertise and consistent quality.

Huddart, one of the four expressions launched by Old Pulteney in mid-2018, pays tribute to the legendary street where the distillery is located. After a phase of finishing in a previously peated whisky cask, this whisky reveals a slightly smoky and intensely aromatic character, perfect for enthusiasts seeking a maritime and authentic tasting experience.
