HAZELBURN - 13 years - Cask Strength - Sherry Wood - 47.4%
Springbank is one of the last two distilleries still operating in the historic Campbeltown region, located on the Kintyre peninsula in southwest Scotland. This renowned craft distillery produces exceptional Single Malt whiskies under three iconic brands with distinct profiles: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn.
Founded in 1828 by Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, Springbank Distillers was the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. By 1934, only Springbank and Glen Scotia remained, bearing witness to a unique heritage. Today, the distillery proudly remains owned by the direct descendants of the founders, ensuring a family tradition carried on through several generations.
Springbank is the only Scottish distillery to fully control its production on-site, from traditional barley malting to final bottling. This complete control allows the creation of three unique styles, all influenced by the careful selection of casks and local climatic conditions, giving each whisky an authentic and remarkable aromatic signature.
Whiskies under the Springbank label are made from a blend of peated and air-dried malts, distilled two and a half times, while Hazelburn benefits from exclusive triple distillation and uses only air-dried malt, ensuring exceptional purity and finesse. The Longrow brand offers heavily peated expressions, distilled twice, ideal for lovers of intense and smoky profiles.
Longrow was born in 1973 with the ambition to prove that the peated Single Malt style, usually associated with Islay, could also be produced on the Scottish mainland. The success of this approach shaped Campbeltown's reputation as a region capable of competing with the great traditions of Scottish whisky.
Hazelburn, bottled since 2005, triple distilled and exclusively using air-dried malt, is a tribute to a former Campbeltown distillery, once the largest in town, operating from 1825 to 1925 under the direction of Mitchell & Co. from 1920.
Moreover, the JA Mitchell & Sons group, Springbank's parent company, revived the Glengyle distillery in 2004, now producing refined Single Malts under the Kilkerran brand. The group also includes the independent bottler Cadenhead’s, known for its original and rare editions.
