KILKERRAN - 12 years - 46% ABV
Springbank is one of only two distilleries still operating in the iconic Campbeltown region, located on the Kintyre peninsula in southwest Scotland, renowned worldwide for its exceptional Single Malt whiskies. It produces its whiskies under three distinct labels with unique styles: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn, each offering a different but always authentic sensory experience.
Founded in 1828 by Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, Springbank Distillers is the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown. In 1934, as the region saw its number of distilleries drastically decrease, only Springbank and Glen Scotia persisted, bearing witness to the rich history and tradition of Scottish whisky. Today, it remains owned by the direct descendants of the founders, thus ensuring faithful transmission of ancestral know-how.
Unique in its kind, this distillery is the only one in Scotland to master its entire manufacturing process on site, including traditional barley malting as well as final bottling. This rigorous control over every step allows the creation of three distinct whisky styles, influenced by the careful choice of casks and the specific climatic conditions of Campbeltown.
The Springbank expressions are made from a blend of malts dried both with peat and air-dried, distilled two and a half times—a rare method that gives a unique aromatic signature, while Hazelburn is triple distilled exclusively with air-dried malt, offering incomparable finesse. Longrow, meanwhile, is distilled twice and is distinguished by its intensely peated notes.
The heavily peated Longrow whiskies embody a bold attempt initiated as early as 1973 to prove that Single Malts with a style close to those of Islay could be produced on the mainland, thus contributing to enriching the diversity of Scottish whiskies.
The Hazelburn range, bottled since 2005, pays tribute to another iconic Campbeltown distillery, which was once the largest in town and operated from 1825 to 1925 under the management of Mitchell & Co. from 1920.
Furthermore, Springbank's parent company, JA Mitchell & Sons, revived the Glengyle distillery in 2004, producing single malts under the Kilkerran brand, while integrating the independent bottler Cadenhead's into its group.
Clos des Spiritueux is proud to offer you these exceptional whiskies that embody the richness and tradition of Scottish whisky, with an exclusive selection for discerning enthusiasts seeking authenticity and impeccable quality.
