The Jamaican distillery Hampden, a historic institution founded in 1684 under the ownership of Thomas Goddard, has been owned since 2009 by the Hussey family (Everglades Farms Ltd.). With nearly 5,600 hectares of sugarcane cultivated, Hampden Rhum Company is one of the jewels of authentic Jamaican rum. Its production is distinguished by traditional "heavy pot rum" distillation, characterized by an exceptional aromatic richness due to a high concentration of esters, those precious organic compounds that give rums their airy and complex flavors. Fermentations, carried out with indigenous and spontaneous yeasts, take place in a historic warehouse where old equipment is still used, ensuring production faithful to ancestral methods and respectful of the Jamaican terroir.
This rare batch of Hampden LROK white rum 62.5% offered by Habitation Velier invites you on a unique sensory journey to Jamaica. This is a "light pot" rum whose ester level ranges between 350 and 400 grams per hectoliter of pure alcohol (g/hlpa), offering a subtle and powerful olfactory balance. This figure is quite remarkable considering that the distillery also produces rums with light esters (85 to 120 g/hlpa) and can even reach, on order, extreme concentrations of over 3000 g/hlpa.
