BENRIACH - Smoke Season - 52.8%
BenRiach Distillery is an iconic single malt distillery located in the heart of Speyside , Scotland . Benefiting from exceptional terroir, BenRiach boasts a rich and eventful history. Founded in 1898 on the historic site next to the Longmorn distillery, the distillery draws its pure water from the underground springs of Burnside, directly beneath the property. Despite a promising start, the whisky industry crash led to its closure after only two years. During the long period of inactivity, only the malting facilities remained operational, serving Longmorn, which itself never ceased distilling.
The BenRiach distillery was revived in 1965 under the leadership of Glenlivet Distillers, and after extensive renovations, production of peated malt began in 1972, primarily for blends. It wasn't until 1994 that the very first whisky bottled under the BenRiach label appeared. Over the decades, the distillery passed through the hands of Seagram and then Pernod Ricard, before ceasing operations in 2002. Its revival began in 2004 thanks to a passionate independent consortium. In 2016, the Brown-Forman group acquired BenRiach along with its famous sister distilleries, Glendronach and Glenglassaugh, inheriting an exceptional stock of casks, some dating back to 1965. To this day, BenRiach is renowned for its ability to produce exceptional peated and unpeated whiskies, appealing to Single Malt lovers worldwide.
Smoke Season is a highly sought-after limited edition that showcases one of BenRiach's traditional production methods: the distillation of intensely peated single malt. This powerful and expressive expression has benefited from a unique maturation process in virgin American oak casks and ex-bourbon barrels, delivering a rich, complex, and decidedly smoky flavor profile.
