BENRIACH - 12 years old - The Twelve - 46%
BenRiach Distillery is an iconic single malt distillery located in the heart of Speyside , Scotland , a region renowned for the exceptional quality of its whiskies. Founded in 1898 in close proximity to the Longmorn Distillery and benefiting from pure spring water from Burnside, BenRiach has a rich and eventful history. After only two years of operation, it was hit by the whisky industry crash, leading to its closure until 1965. During this period, its malting facilities continued to supply Longmorn, which never ceased production.
BenRiach's revival began in 1965 under the management of Glenlivet Distillers, with a major renovation and the introduction, in 1972, of peated whisky production for blending. It wasn't until 1994 that the first BenRiach Single Malt was released, marking the beginning of the brand's international recognition. After successive periods under the ownership of Seagram and then Pernod Ricard, the distillery remained dormant for another time before reopening in 2004 thanks to an independent consortium. In 2016, Brown-Forman acquired BenRiach, Glendronach, and Glenglassaugh, inheriting a stock of exceptional casks, some dating back to 1965. Today, BenRiach is renowned for its peated and unpeated expressions, which appeal to both enthusiasts and connoisseurs.
The Twelve is carefully crafted and patiently aged for at least 12 years in a harmonious combination of three different casks : Sherry, Bourbon, and Port. This triple maturation brings complexity, richness, and elegance to this Single Malt, imparting fruity aromas, notes of chocolate, and a hint of spice.
