BENRIACH - 12 years old - The Smoky Twelve - 46%
BenRiach Distillery is an iconic single malt distillery located in the heart of Scotland 's prestigious Speyside region. With a rich and eventful history, BenRiach stands out for its expertise and unique heritage in the world of whisky. Founded in 1898 on the same site as Longmorn, BenRiach draws on a pure underground spring, the Burnside, thus benefiting from exceptional water. After only two years of operation, the distillery was impacted by the whisky industry crash and remained closed until 1965, during which time its malts supplied Longmorn. Its revival by Glenlivet Distillers led to extensive modernization, culminating in 1972 with the production of peated malt used in renowned blends. It wasn't until 1994 that the first BenRiach single malt was released. After stints at Seagram and then Pernod Ricard, BenRiach underwent a brief hiatus in 2002 before being revived in 2004 by an independent consortium. Since 2016, Brown-Forman has owned BenRiach along with its prestigious sister distilleries Glendronach and Glenglassaugh, adding a new dimension with an impressive stock of casks dating back to 1965. Today, BenRiach distinguishes itself through its expertise in crafting peated and unpeated whiskies, renowned worldwide for their complexity and elegance.
The Smoky Twelve embodies the full richness of the BenRiach style, resulting from a careful blending of peated and unpeated whiskies, aged for a minimum of 12 years in a unique selection of three types of casks : American Bourbon casks, Spanish Sherry casks, and Italian Marsala wine casks. This triple maturation gives The Smoky Twelve exceptional aromatic complexity, subtly blending notes of smoke, ripe fruit, honey, and sweet spices for an unforgettable tasting experience.
