Meikle Tòir - 5 years - The Chinquapin One - 48%
The GlenAllachie is an iconic distillery located in Aberlour, in the heart of the famous Speyside region in Scotland. Founded in 1967, it began production in February 1968 with an impressive initial capacity of nearly three million liters of alcohol. After a period of dormancy in 1985, the distillery was revived under the management of Campbell Distillers (an entity later integrated into Pernod Ricard), restarting production on April 24, marking 29 consecutive years of quality whisky production. Nicknamed at that time The Home of Clan Campbell Whisky, it built a solid reputation. In 2005, Chivas Brothers expanded its catalog by launching the Cask Edition series dedicated to GlenAllachie single malts. A decisive turning point occurred in 2017 when Billy Walker, Trisha Savage, and Graham Stevenson joined forces to acquire the distillery and found The GlenAllachie Distillers Company Limited, bringing over a century of combined expertise in the whisky world.
In 2018, true to its spirit of innovation and tradition, the distillery launched for the first time a production of peated whiskies, giving birth to the Meikle Tòir range. This exclusive collection released in 2023 is the result of carefully controlled maturation over 5 years, using rigorously selected casks to enhance each expression.
The Meikle Tòir - The Chinquapin One edition stands out for its aging in American oak ex-Bourbon casks, after an exceptional fermentation of 160 hours. This whisky then benefits from a specific finishing in virgin Chinquapin oak casks, bringing a unique aromatic complexity. This single malt is peated using continental peat from Saint Fergus (Aberdeenshire), used to dry the barley. This method imparts a refined and soft smoky profile, ideal for lovers of subtly balanced peated whiskies.
