Izarra is an iconic liqueur, created in 1906 in Hendaye, in the heart of the Basque Country, by Joseph Grattau, a passionate botanist and pharmacist. This exceptional liqueur is made from a unique distillate composed of aromatic plants, refined spices, and two special macerations based on prunes and walnut husks. After careful distillation in a traditional copper still, the distillate is subtly blended with aged and lightly sweetened Armagnac to offer a rich and authentic tasting experience.
Izarra Verte stands out for its aromatic complexity thanks to a blend of more than 17 carefully selected plants, including nutmeg, coriander, fennel, as well as angelica seeds and roots. Also included are celery, balm (or rooster mint), elderflower, black caraway, wild thyme, cardamom, green anise, and génépi. This rich botanical composition gives Izarra Verte a unique character, perfectly balanced between sweetness and freshness, ideal for lovers of authentic spirits.
