Hampden - 12 years old - Rare Cask Series No. 24 - HGML - Bourbon Barrel - 63.60%
Hampden Estate is one of the oldest and most prestigious sugar plantations in Jamaica, with a history dating back to 1753 when the estate belonged to Mr. Archibald Stirling from Scotland. In 1779, Mr. Stirling built the Hampden Great House, whose ground floor was used as a rum warehouse until the early 20th century. The Farquarson family operated this iconic estate, producing quality sugar and rum until 2003, when it was acquired by the Jamaica Sugar Company. Known for having some of the most fertile lands in Jamaica, Hampden Estate produces the largest quantity of sugar from crushed cane. Historically, Hampden rums were exclusively exported to Europe, especially England and Scotland. In 2009, Everglades Farms Ltd, owned by the Hussey family, purchased the distillery following the Jamaican government's divestment policy through Jamaica Sugar Company. Since this acquisition, Everglades Farms has made significant investments, creating many jobs in the Trelawny region and supporting more than 17 local communities as well as several schools through modernized infrastructure.
The water used for Hampden rum production does not come from underground aquifers but from an exclusive mountain water collection system, ensuring optimal quality. After use, only pure water is released back into the natural environment, demonstrating the estate's ecological commitment. Fermentation is carried out over an extended period with natural yeasts, promoting rich and authentic aromas. Hampden Estate is also one of the few distilleries worldwide to practice batch distillation, currently operating four traditional stills, including a historic 7,560-liter John Dore installed in 1960. All rums are aged in the Jamaican tropical climate, which accelerates their maturation equivalent to 25 years in Europe, offering incomparable aromatic richness. This unique tropical maturation guarantees exceptional complexity and intensity. Moreover, Hampden rums are produced, aged, and bottled without artificial additives — no added sugar, tannins, caramel, or glycerin — thus preserving the purity and original character of the product.
This exceptional edition of the Rare Cask Series was carefully distilled in 2010 in a single barrel #24, marked with the HGML symbol. Aged 12 years entirely on-site under tropical climate, this rare and prestigious rum stands out for its strength (63.60%) and authenticity. The limited production, with only 275 bottles available, makes it a precious collector's item for enthusiasts and connoisseurs of exceptional rums.
