MARS - 2016 Single Cask - Tsunuki Shinshu Aging - Bottled in 2021 - 60%
\nThe Shinshu Distillery belongs to Hombo Shuzo (also known as Hombo Brewing Co.) and the whisky produced is marketed under the prestigious brand Mars Whisky. Founded in 1872 by Honbu Matsusa, Hombo Shuzo is located at 800 meters altitude in the village of Miyata on the Japanese island of Kyushu. In 1949, the company obtained a license to produce whisky at the Kagoshima distillery, before permanently transferring its production activity to the Shinshu distillery. Despite a temporary production pause in 1992 due to low demand, the site resumed activity in 2012 with renewed interest in authentic and artisanal Japanese whiskies. Among the most emblematic expressions of this distillery are the famous Komagatake, a Single Malt named after the imposing nearby mountain, as well as the Mars Maltage Cosmo, launched in July 2015 to celebrate the unique location of the distillery, evoking the starry sky visible from Mount Komagatake.
\nThis exceptional edition was specially created to commemorate the 65th<\/sup> anniversary of La Maison du Whisky, representing the very first 'Single Cask Project' aimed at experimenting with aging in different sites where whisky is produced in Tsunuki. Each cask, distilled exclusively at Tsunuki, is matured in Bourbon barrels at three distinct sites: Tsunuki, Yakushima, and Shinshu, for about 4 years. This rare and precious whisky was distilled in 2016, coming from cask number 3496, offering a unique tasting experience reflecting the richness of terroirs and climates, ideal for lovers of exceptional Japanese whiskies.
