NIKKA - Taketsuru Pure Malt - 43%
Nikka Whisky Distilling Company is an iconic distillery located in Japan, founded by Masataka Taketsuru, globally recognized as the true pioneer and father of Japanese whisky. The son of a sake master brewer, Taketsuru enriched his knowledge in chemistry at university before training intensively at several prestigious distilleries in Scotland. Returning to Japan in 1920 accompanied by his Scottish wife Rita, he contributed to the creation of the very first Japanese whisky within the company that would later become Suntory (formerly Kotobukiya Limited). Ambitious and visionary, he then founded his own Yoichi distillery as well as the parent company Nikka, which today is synonymous with excellence and innovation in the whisky world. In addition to multiple expertise, Nikka also masters the production of Shochu, a traditional Japanese spirit obtained by distilling various ingredients such as rice, barley, or sweet potato, as well as the production of cider brandy and apple wine of rare quality. Since 2001, this prestigious house has been part of the Asahi Breweries group, thus guaranteeing its international reach.
Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt is a remarkable blend made from Sherry casks from the Yoichi distillery and Sherry casks and refurbished casks from the Miyagikyo distillery. This exceptional cuvée was launched to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Masataka Taketsuru's marriage. Thanks to its unique aromatic profile, it was crowned "Japanese Whisky of the Year" in the 2020 Whisky Bible, the essential reference established by the famous expert Jim Murray.
