The Shinshu Distillery belongs to the prestigious Hombo Shuzo group (also known as Hombo Brewing Co.) and markets its whisky under the renowned Mars Whisky brand. Founded in 1872 by Honbu Matsusa, this distillery is ideally located at 800 meters altitude in the picturesque village of Miyata on the Japanese island of Kyushu. In 1949, Hombo Shuzo obtained an exclusive license for whisky production at the Kagoshima distillery. Subsequently, manufacturing activities were concentrated at the Shinshu distillery for optimal quality. Despite a temporary pause in 1992 due to low market demand, production resumed vigorously in 2012, confirming the distillery's commitment to excellence. The jewel of this distillery is the Komagatake, a prestigious Single Malt named after Mount Komagatake, the most imposing mountain in the area, symbolizing power and authenticity. Added to this is the famous Mars Maltage Cosmo, launched in July 2015, paying tribute to the unique location of the distillery and the starry sky visible from Mount Komagatake, thus reinforcing the mystical and celestial identity of this exceptional whisky range.
The new-make of this exceptional whisky was carefully crafted at the Mars Shinshu distillery before being transferred to the Mars Tsunuki distillery, located in Kagoshima, where it benefited from optimal aging. Thanks to its state-of-the-art distillation equipment unique to Shinshu and maturation carried out in a warmer climate region, the Komagatake Tsunuki Ageing 2020 reveals a truly unique and singular aromatic expression, combining finesse and intensity.
