Velier was founded in 1947 by Casimiro Chaix, in the heart of Genoa in Italy. With his partner Arturo Lupi, they created in 1953 a small import company specializing in wines and spirits, distributing notably champagne, grappa but also tea and cocoa. In 1983, Gian Luca Gargano, then marketing director of Spirit SpA (the largest import company in Italy), joined the company's capital. From 1985, Velier focused on importing the best spirits intended for high-end restaurants and wine bars. In 1988, Velier became a pioneer in Italy by importing prestigious New World wines. From 1992, the company began selecting rare casks of old Single Malts and exceptional Rums for their own brand, developed from 1995. In 2001, Velier offered for the first time a selection of Damoiseau rums on the European market. Habitation Velier is an ambitious project born in 2015 from the close collaboration between Luca Gargano and the best rum master distillers around the world. This innovative project highlights Pure Single rums of exceptional quality, each expression of Habitation Velier embodying an original project with unique characteristics, a true world first for each partner distillery.
The famous Caroni Distillery was founded in 1918 in the emblematic state of Trinidad & Tobago (The Trinity). A recognized state distillery, it has its own sugar mill ensuring an exclusive supply of high-quality local sugarcane. Equipped with sophisticated equipment combining column and pot stills, this legendary distillery long cultivated a fascinating mystery, with few of its rums marketed under its own label. The unique aromatic profile of its rums is characterized by marked notes of hydrocarbons, soft spices, and honey, giving its spirits an inimitable signature. Unfortunately, following a major crisis in the sugar industry, the government ordered the closure of Caroni in 2002. Since then, their rarity and exceptional quality have elevated these rums to the status of mythical icons in the premium spirits world, prized by connoisseurs and collectors worldwide.
