MARS - Single Malt - Komagatake IPA Cask Finish - Bottled in 2020 - 52%

The Shinshu Distillery belongs to the prestigious Hombo Shuzo group (also known as Hombo Brewing Co.) and offers exceptional whiskies under the renowned Mars Whisky brand. Founded in 1872 by Honbu Matsusa, this distillery is ideally located at 800 meters altitude in the picturesque village of Miyata, on the Japanese island of Kyushu. In 1949, Hombo Shuzo obtained a license to produce whisky through the Kagoshima distillery before permanently transferring its operations to Shinshu. Despite a temporary production halt in 1992 due to low demand, the distillery resumed activity in 2012 with renewed interest in its high-quality spirits. Among its most emblematic creations, the Komagatake Single Malt, named after the majestic mountain overlooking the region, as well as the Mars Maltage Cosmo, launched in July 2015 to pay tribute to the starry sky visible from Mount Komagatake, perfectly embody the essence and tradition of this exceptional house.

This unique version benefits from aging in the Shinshu warehouse perched at 800 meters altitude, which imparts remarkably fine aromas to the whisky. The Minami Shinshu brewery, located very close to the distillery, actively commits to using local ingredients for its craft beers. The innovation of this expression lies in the finishing in previously used beer casks (India Pale Ale), bringing unprecedented hoppy notes and exceptional aromatic complexity to the whisky.
