LONGROW - 18 years - 46% ABV
The Springbank Distillery is one of only two distilleries still operating in the prestigious Campbeltown region, located on the spectacular Kintyre peninsula in the southwest of Scotland. Renowned for its ancestral expertise, it produces exceptional Single Malt whiskies under three iconic labels with unique styles: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn. Founded in 1828 by the visionaries Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, this historic distillery was the 14th licensed in Campbeltown. By 1934, only Springbank and Glen Scotia maintained the local tradition. Today, the distillery remains family-owned, belonging to the direct descendants of the founders. It stands out for its complete mastery of the production chain, from malting barley on site using traditional methods to the final bottling. This autonomy guarantees quality and allows the development of three very distinct styles, each influenced by the rigorous choice of casks and the unique maritime climatic conditions of the region. Furthermore, the JA Mitchell & Sons group, Springbank's parent company, reopened the Glengyle distillery in 2004, where Single Malts are produced under the Kilkerran label. The independent bottler Cadenhead's is also an integral part of the group.
The Longrow expressions are characterized by their strongly peated profile, offering a unique aromatic intensity and robust character. The first Longrow bottles were distilled as early as 1973, with a bold intention to demonstrate that Single Malts with a style comparable to the famous Islay whiskies could be made on the Scottish mainland.
This Longrow 18 years vintage is traditionally double distilled, then aged for 18 precious years in a subtle blend of second-fill ex-Sherry casks (60%) and first-fill ex-Bourbon casks (40%), bringing complexity, richness, and balance to this peated Single Malt.
Peated with an intensity of 50-55 ppm
