PORT CHARLOTTE - MRC:01 2010 - 59.2%
The famous Bruichladdich Distillery is ideally located on the authentic island of Islay, in Scotland, a terroir globally recognized for the unique quality of its whiskies. This iconic distillery produces exceptional Single Malt whiskies, distributed under three prestigious labels: Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte, and Octomore. In addition to its whiskies, the distillery also produces the renowned The Botanist Gin, famous for its aromatic richness and premium quality.
Founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers, the Bruichladdich distillery has a rich and eventful history. After a devastating fire in 1934 and the death of William Harvey in 1936, the distillery underwent several ownership changes before closing in 1994. In 2000, a major turning point occurred when the investor group led by Mark Reynier from Murray McDavid, also known for its Irish whiskeys Waterford, bought and fully restored the establishment. Despite a complete reconstruction, Bruichladdich proudly retains its original Victorian equipment, gravity-fed and free of computerized technologies, illustrating its commitment to traditional artisanal methods. In 2012, the company joined the expertise of the Rémy Cointreau group, strengthening its global reach.
The distillery's philosophy is based on a rigorous appreciation of the origin of the barley, which guarantees authentic whiskies typical of Scottish terroirs, with full transparency for enthusiasts.
The Bruichladdich range is distinguished by non-peated production, while boldly peated expressions are marketed under the Port Charlotte brand. Furthermore, the Octomore series offers limited editions known for having the highest peat levels ever reached in the world of Single Malts, captivating lovers of powerful and complex whiskies.
The Port Charlotte MRC:01 is part of the prestigious "Cask Exploration" series from the distillery, designed to precisely reveal the unique imprint of wood on this intensely peated spirit. This iconic limited edition was distilled in 2010 from carefully selected Scottish barley grown in the Invernesshire region. This rare whisky benefited from subtle maturation by being aged 50% in first-fill American whiskey barrels and 50% in second-fill French wine casks. Its final maturation took place in wine casks from the prestigious left bank of Bordeaux, which gives this single malt a complex and refined aromatic profile.
