ARDBEG - Corryvreckan - 57.1%
Ardbeg is an iconic distillery located on the island of Islay, in Scotland, renowned for producing some of the most peated and characterful whiskies in the world. Founded in 1798, Ardbeg is one of the oldest and most prestigious distilleries on Islay, with a rich and fascinating history. Its international reputation was further enhanced when it became the first whisky to travel into space in 2011, sending part of its production to the International Space Station to study the unique effects of weightlessness on whisky aging and aromas.
Ardbeg whisky was first marketed in 1815, the same year as its legendary neighbor Laphroaig, and it quickly won over enthusiasts thanks to its powerful and peaty profile. Despite difficulties related to ownership changes and successive closures, Ardbeg regained all its splendor from 1997 onwards, when the Glenmorangie group – now part of the French luxury group LVMH – relaunched full production.
The Ardbeg distillery produces one million liters of pure alcohol per year thanks to its two traditional stills. Each whisky is exclusively marketed as a Single Malt, with maturation mainly in Bourbon casks, complemented by finishing in Sherry casks which enhances the richness of the aromas. Famous for its intense peatiness, Ardbeg presents a unique whisky profile, combining smoky, spicy notes, as well as subtle sweetness, while maintaining a character less maritime than other great Islay names.
Ardbeg Corryvreckan, named after the spectacular whirlpool of the same name located north of Islay, perfectly reflects the bold spirit and intensity of this powerful whisky, reserved for the most intrepid connoisseurs.
