The worldwide renown of the Caroni distillery has its roots in 1918, in the heart of the state of Trinidad (Trinidad & Tobago). This iconic state-owned distillery then had its own sugar mill, thus guaranteeing a constant supply of exceptional raw materials, with locally grown sugarcane recognized for its superior quality. Caroni is known for its sophisticated equipment combining column stills and pot stills, giving its rums a unique complexity. For a long time, this legendary distillery remained mysterious and secretive, its rums rarely marketed under its own label. Caroni spirits stand out for an extraordinary aromatic profile, rich in notes of hydrocarbons, soft spices, and honey. Unfortunately, in 2002, faced with the major crisis in the local sugar industry, the government ordered the closure of the distillery.
Since then, the rarity of Caroni rums has exploded, turning their singular character into a true must-have myth for enthusiasts and collectors. These atypical rums now embody the excellence and authenticity of Trinidad & Tobago spirits.
