LAPHROAIG - Quarter Cask - 48%
Laphroaig is an iconic distillery on Islay in Scotland, renowned worldwide for its unique and powerful Single Malts. Known as "the most richly flavored of all Scottish whiskies," this Single Malt stands out for its intensely peated flavors and unparalleled depth of taste. It holds the prestigious royal warrant granted by the Prince of Wales in 1994, highlighting its excellence and exceptional heritage.
The fascinating history of the distillery begins in 1815, when Donald and Alexander Johnston leased 250 hectares from the laird of Islay for cattle breeding and barley cultivation for their own use. They quickly gained recognition for their expertise by producing whisky from their surplus harvest, using soft, peated, and mineral-poor water, ideal for refining the unique character of their spirit. The neighboring distillery, Lagavulin, played a key role, as in the 1880s its owners acquired nearly half of Laphroaig's production for their blended assemblages. To strengthen their identity and build their brand, the Johnston family ended this collaboration. Laphroaig remained an independent company until the 1960s, before being acquired by Long John International. In 2011, the distillery was integrated into the Beam Inc. group, which became Beam Suntory in 2014, thus ensuring enhanced international exposure.
