BARBANCOURT - Limited Edition - Cuvée Liberté - Libète - 8 years - 43%
The Barbancourt Cuvée Liberté, also called Libète in Haitian Creole, is an exclusive limited edition that pays tribute to Haiti's rich history as well as the artisan craftsmanship of an iconic house. Founded in 1862, the Barbancourt distillery is a key reference in the world of authentic Haitian rum, renowned for its unique method based on pure sugarcane juice and a traditional distillation inspired by Charente practices. This prestigious cuvée commemorates Haiti's 220 years of independence in a collector's bottle featuring the vibrant colors of the national flag. Highly sought after, this edition is particularly rare and benefits from a limited release on the European market, enhancing its appeal for both discerning enthusiasts and passionate collectors of commemorative editions. The Cuvée Liberté is a rum that is both symbolic, rich in history, and recognized for its unique character. It perfectly embodies the alliance between memory, elegance, and exceptional tasting pleasure.
This limited edition is based on the famous Barbancourt 5-star Special Reserve, carefully aged for 8 years before undergoing a precise finishing of several months in new Limousin oak barrels. This additional wood aging gives the rum an intense roundness, a complex aromatic depth, and remarkable gustatory relief. Made exclusively from pure sugarcane juice, this agricole rum stands out for its authentic identity and expressive raw material, livelier than traditional molasses rums. Barbancourt's unique aromatic signature is enhanced by the regular use of the Madame Mevs cane variety. Aging in a tropical climate intensifies the concentration of flavors, enhances the wood's patina, and enriches the aromatic palette. With an alcohol content controlled at 43%, this vintage displays a perfect balance between power, softness, and accessibility. The Cuvée Liberté thus stands out with a more ambitious construction than the classic version, while retaining the elegant, dry, and refined style characteristic of Barbancourt.
In the glass, the Barbancourt Cuvée Liberté 8 years presents a bright amber robe with golden and copper reflections. The nose opens on a complex bouquet of vanilla notes, delicate dried flowers, fine wood, blond caramel, and tasty ripe fruits. On aeration, nuances of soft spices, blond tobacco, light honey, and toasted oak enrich this aromatic expression. On the palate, the rum reveals itself as round, supple, and elegant, with a beautiful presence in structure without any heaviness. The finishing in new Limousin oak barrels brings a more pronounced but perfectly integrated woody sensation, supporting a velvety texture and extending an elegant finish. The tasting ends on vanilla, floral, slightly spicy, and finely tannic notes. This exceptional rum is ideally enjoyed neat, in a tulip glass, after a few minutes of aeration, or as a refined accompaniment to intense dark chocolate, a walnut tart, a vanilla dessert, a mild cigar, or simply during a privileged moment of contemplative tasting.
