Velier was founded in 1947 by Casimiro Chaix, in the heart of Genoa in Italy. In 1953, together with his partner Arturo Lupi, they launched a small company specializing in the traditional import of wines and spirits, offering notably champagne, grappa as well as tea and cocoa. In 1983, Gian Luca Gargano, then marketing director of Spirit SpA – the largest Italian import company – joined the capital. From 1985 onwards, Velier focused on the exceptional import of the finest spirits intended for gastronomic establishments and wine bars. In 1988, Velier became a pioneer in Italy by importing New World wines. From 1992, the company rigorously selected casks of old Single Malts and rare rums, launching their own brand from 1995. In 2001, Velier presented its first exclusive selection of Damoiseau rums. The Habitation Velier project, born in 2015, realizes the innovative collaboration between Luca Gargano and the best rum master distillers. This unique range offers Pure Single rums, each embodying an original project with unique characteristics, marking a world first at each partner distillery.
