NIKKA - The Grain - Discovery Collection - 48%
Nikka Whisky Distilling Company is an iconic distillery located in Japan, founded by Masataka Taketsuru, recognized as the true founding father of Japanese whisky. The son of a renowned sake brewer, Taketsuru studied chemistry at university before perfecting his craft at several renowned Scottish distilleries. In 1920, he returned to Japan accompanied by his Scottish wife, Rita, and contributed to the creation of the very first Japanese whisky by working for the company that would later become Suntory. Driven by his passion, he then founded his own distillery in Yoichi as well as the parent company, Nikka. Today, Nikka is also known for its distilleries dedicated to the production of Shochu – a Japanese distilled spirit made from rice, barley, or sweet potato – as well as for its facilities devoted to cider brandy and apple wine. Since 2001, this exceptional house has belonged to the giant Asahi Breweries.
Nikka The Grain, an essential member of the prestigious Nikka Discovery series, is the result of a unique blend of seven different styles of grain whisky from four distinct distilleries, with some spirits dating back to 1988. This rare blend combines old Coffey Grain whiskies (made from corn and malted barley) and Coffey Malt (100% malted barley) from the now-closed Nishinomiya distillery, as well as Coffey Grain and Coffey Malt from the modern Miyagikyo distillery. The complexity of this whisky is enriched by the presence of Barley Grain (malted and unmalted barley) and Barley Grain & Corn & Rye (malted barley, corn, rye), produced in traditional pot stills at the Moji and Satsumatsukasa distilleries, formerly specialized in Shochu distillation. Each component has been rigorously selected to create a harmonious and refined blend. The aging takes place in
Non-peated whisky – revelation of soft and fruity aromas, perfectly balanced.
