AKKESHI – Bourbon Peated Single Cask – Vintage 2018 – 58%
The Akkeshi Distillery, located on the island of Hokkaido, in the wild and preserved north of Japan, has quickly become an essential reference for lovers of exceptional whiskies. Founded by Keiichi Toita, president and CEO of Kenten Co. Ltd, the story of this Japanese distillery began in 2013 with the experimentation of aging batches from renowned distilleries in Japan. The adventure truly took off in 2015 during the construction of the site, located in the heart of a wetland characterized by a thick layer of peat resting on soft soil reaching up to 50 meters deep beneath the surface. This unique soil, extremely fragile, required the use of the innovative Columbus technique: replacing the soil under the foundations with polystyrene filling to ensure the stability of the distillery.
In 2016, technicians from the Scottish company Forsyths – internationally recognized for the quality of its stills – came to install the distillation equipment. True to tradition, the Akkeshi team draws inspiration from ancient Scottish distillation methods to craft an exceptional whisky, evoking the peaty character typical of Islay Malts. Akkeshi’s first Single Malt was born in 2018, marking the beginning of a new era for Japanese whisky.
This rare cuvée, a Single Malt Peated Single Cask, carefully selected by La Maison du Whisky, was distilled in 2018 and then fully matured in a single bourbon cask. Bottled at an impressive strength of 58%, it offers powerful and elegant aromas, balancing peat, vanilla, and the spicy notes typical of bourbon.
Exceptional peated whisky, available exclusively at Clos des Spiritueux, the reference for exceptional spirits and collectible whiskies at the best price.
