LAGAVULIN - The Distillers Edition 2022 - Double Maturation in American Oak Casks Seasoned with Pedro Ximénez - 43%
Lagavulin is an iconic distillery located on the south shore of the island of Islay, in Scotland, famous for its Single Malt whiskies with strong character. Its Gaelic name, meaning "the hollow by the mill," reflects its historical and territorial roots. Renowned for producing a highly peated whisky, Lagavulin offers powerful aromas with characteristic iodine and marine notes, a subtly medicinal touch, and a tarry finish. Belonging to the United Distillers subsidiary of Diageo, the distillery was founded in 1816 and is one of the three legendary producers on the coast between Port Ellen and Kildalton, alongside Ardbeg and Laphroaig.
Lagavulin sources its water exclusively from the nearby Solum Lochs, while the barley is malted nearby in Port Ellen. It has four traditional stills and offers several expressions divided into three distinct series, each reflecting the authenticity and richness of the Islay terroir. Lagavulin's unique style stands out for its intense, marine, iodine flavors, with beautiful complexity and a subtle balance between smokiness and sweetness.
The Distiller’s Edition 2022 is a special double-matured edition: first aged in American and European oak casks, then carefully finished in American oak casks seasoned with the prestigious Pedro Ximénez Sherry. This unique process gives this single malt an exceptional aromatic depth, blending sweet notes of dried fruits, candied raisins, and a slight spicy touch, while retaining Lagavulin's iconic smoky imprint.
Peated, intense, authentic — a must-have for exceptional whisky lovers.
