Hampden - The Younger - LROK - Vintage 2018 - 3 Liter Bottle - 47%
Hampden Estate is one of the oldest sugar plantations in Jamaica, an iconic land renowned for its expertise in producing exceptional rums. Founded in 1753, this historic plantation belonged to Mr. Archibald Stirling from Scotland. In 1779, Mr. Stirling had the Hampden Great House built, whose ground floor served as a rum store until the early 1900s. The Farquarson family managed this sugar and rum estate until 2003, the year the property was transferred to the Jamaica Sugar Company. Known for its exceptional lands, Hampden Estate benefits from the best soils for sugarcane cultivation in Jamaica, thus producing the largest quantity of sugar from crushed cane. At the time, Hampden rums were exclusively destined for export to Europe, England, and Scotland. In 2009, Everglades Farms Ltd, owned by the Hussey family, acquired the estate through a public offer initiated during the divestment procedures of the Jamaica Sugar Company's assets, under the Jamaican government's oversight. Today, Everglades Farms continues to invest heavily in the rum industry, creating sustainable jobs in Trelawny and providing major infrastructural support to more than 17 surrounding communities and schools.
The water used for rum production at Hampden Estate does not come from conventional underground aquifers but from an exclusive mountain water collection system, ensuring exceptional purity. After the process, the water returned to nature is clean and environmentally friendly. The distillery favors a long fermentation, carried out with carefully selected natural yeasts, to maximize aromatic richness. Hampden Estate is among the few distilleries worldwide still practicing batch distillation, with four operational stills, including the oldest, a legendary John Dore installed in 1960, capable of holding 7,560 liters. The rums undergo rigorous tropical aging of more than 7 years in Jamaica's warm climate: this equates to 25 years of aging in Europe, allowing intense aromatic development. Perfectly aligned with the expectations of pure rum enthusiasts, these products are crafted, aged, and bottled without any additives, free from added sugars, tannins, caramels, or glycerin.
This exclusive edition of The Younger was distilled in 2018 and aged for 4 years in ex-Bourbon barrels under the Jamaican tropical climate, ensuring a rich and authentic aromatic profile. This cuvée from the LROK brand features an exceptional ester content, reaching 370.1 g\/hLPA, guaranteeing a rare and sought-after olfactory complexity. It was bottled in 2022 and stands out for its exceptional quality and generous 3-liter format, perfect for discerning connoisseurs and collectors of Clos des Spiritueux.
