The Sakurao Distillery is nestled in the Hiroshima region of Japan, a legendary land for lovers of exceptional Japanese whisky. Founded in 2017, it is an integral part of the traditional Chugoku Jozo house, where Taihei Yamamoto has been working since 1998. Initially specialized in the production of artisanal liqueurs, sake, and shochu, the distillery has now dedicated itself to creating unique and refined single malt whiskies. The aging takes place in an exceptional environment: a 361-meter-long maturation tunnel, dug in 1970, which offers stable humidity and an ideal constant temperature of 14 degrees Celsius. These privileged natural conditions allow for slow and progressive maturation, ensuring remarkable aromatic complexity and subtle extraction of flavors.
The Sakurao Single Malt is aged for 3 years in a rigorous selection of casks: classic bourbon barrels, new American oak barrels, and Spanish sherry casks. To perfect its flavor profile, it then undergoes meticulous finishing for several months in Mizunara casks, a rare Japanese wood that imparts woody, spicy, and slightly vanilla notes typical of the finest Japanese malts.
