Glen Scotia - 25 Years - Wooden Box - Campbeltown - 48.8%
Glen Scotia is an iconic distillery located in Campbeltown, on the historic Kintyre peninsula in Scotland, one of the few regions renowned for its exceptional malt whisky. Founded in 1832 under the name Scotia by the town mayor James Stewart and provost John Galbraith, the distillery is a living testament to Scotland's rich whisky tradition. In 1919, it joined the prestigious circle of founding members of the "West Highland Malt Distilleries" consortium, a group of six Campbeltown distilleries aiming to pool costs to ensure their survival amid economic challenges. In 1924, the Scotia distillery was acquired by Duncan MacCallum, also founder of Glen Nevis, but he had to close the distillery in 1928 before reopening it in 1930. Tragically, that year MacCallum committed suicide after losing his savings in a scam, and the distillery was taken over by Bloch Brothers, who added the prefix "Glen". A local legend says MacCallum's ghost still haunts the premises. Bloch Brothers retained ownership until 1954, after which Glen Scotia experienced a succession of owners. Following a temporary closure between 1984 and 1989, the distillery was revived under Gibson International. In 1994, Gibson's interests were transferred to Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse Ltd, which paused production before it definitively resumed in 1999. Since 2014, Glen Scotia has belonged to the Loch Lomond group, a major player in Scottish whisky, which has invested significantly to modernize the distillery, increase production capacity, open new warehouses, and create a visitor center dedicated to whisky enthusiasts.
This Glen Scotia 25-year-old whisky is a masterpiece of maturation, carefully aged in premium American oak casks, selected to reveal complex and deep notes. Before bottling, it was blended in first-fill Bourbon barrels, thus bringing a unique aromatic richness and remarkable finesse to this exceptional single malt, recognized among the best aged whiskies from Campbeltown.
