Cognac CAMUS - Ile de Ré - Fine Island - Edition 2021 - 40%
Camus is an independent, family-owned Cognac House located in the Borderies estate since 1863. It was founded by Jean-Baptiste Camus and is today managed by the fifth generation, Cyril Camus. At the end of the 19th century, Camus began to export his Cognac to England, securing his first foreign market. It continued to increase exports in the 20th century across Europe and further east, becoming the official cognac of the court of Tsar Nicholas II. Camus owns 180 hectares of land and owns the largest plots of all producers of the Cognac cru of Borderies. The eau-de-vie is made from a blend of common grape varieties: Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and Colombard.
Since 2003 Camus has pioneered production in the insular terroir of Ile de Ré. The calcareous and sandy soils of the Island contribute the vigor of the vines while the natural abundance of seaweed (kelp) and the sea spray wind-swept over the vineyards give a typically marine composition to the grapes, richer in iodine. The unique island climate, windy but warmer than the continent creates also the perfect environment for a steady and consistent maturation in barrels.
