Ledaig is produced at the Tobermory Distillery, located on the Isle of Mull, off the wild west coast of Scotland. Founded in 1798, this distillery is not only the only one on the Isle of Mull but also one of the oldest commercial distilleries in Scotland, rich in authentic historical heritage. In 1797, John Sinclair, a visionary kelp merchant, requested a lease of 57 acres in the area called Ledaig to establish housing and a distillery. Despite the initial refusal limiting the use of the land to a brewery, Sinclair persisted in his ambition, and a year later, the Ledaig distillery was established. The difficult period of the 1930s, marked by the Great Depression and Prohibition in the United States, caused production to halt for 41 years. The distillery was revived in 1993 after its acquisition by Burn Stewart Distillers, and since 2013, it has been part of the Distell group, ensuring its modernization and consistent quality. This rich history gives Ledaig a unique identity, celebrated by whisky enthusiasts worldwide.
