Gordon & MacPhail is a renowned independent bottler of Scottish whisky, also owner of the prestigious Benromach distillery. This house is recognized for its exceptionally rich and diverse range of bottlings from Scotland's most iconic distilleries. Founded in 1895 as a grocer and wine and spirits merchant in Elgin, northeast Scotland, Gordon & MacPhail embodies over a century of family tradition and expertise in the art of whisky. In 1915, John Urquhart, a visionary former apprentice, took full control of the company, ensuring a strong family legacy synonymous with quality and authenticity.
The Linkwood distillery, emblematic of Speyside, is located in Elgin, at the heart of this region famous for its elegant and fruity whiskies. Built in 1821 by Peter Brown with two traditional stills, it began production in 1825. Successively managed by James Walker then William Brown, the distillery experienced several key milestones, notably the creation in 1898 of the Linkwood-Glenlivet company by the Brown family, with a stock market listing that marked its expansion. Despite a temporary closure between 1941 and 1945 due to barley shortages during World War II, Linkwood was revived under the leadership of Roderick Mackenzie until 1963. After a dormancy from 1985 to 1988, the distillery is today a pride of the British group Diageo, symbolizing exceptional quality and perpetuated traditional know-how.
