NIKKA - Pure Malt White - 43%
Nikka Whisky Distilling Company is an iconic house located in Japan, founded by Masataka Taketsuru, recognized as the true father of Japanese whisky. The son of a sake master brewer, Taketsuru studied chemistry at university before training at prestigious Scottish distilleries. Returning to Japan in 1920 with his Scottish wife Rita, he launched the production of the first Japanese whisky while working for the company that would later become Suntory (Kotobukiya Limited). His passion led him to create the Yoichi distillery and the parent company Nikka, pioneers in authentic Japanese whisky. Today, Nikka also owns distilleries specializing in the production of Shochu — a traditional distilled alcohol made from various ingredients such as rice, barley, and sweet potato — as well as facilities for producing cider brandy and apple wines. In 2001, the prestigious Nikka brand joined the Asahi Breweries group, strengthening its position in the global market.
Nikka Pure Malt White is an exceptional whisky made from intensely peated malts, sourced from two excellent distilleries: Yoichi and Miyagikyo, offering a perfect balance between power and softness.
The Yoichi distillery, founded in 1934 and operational since 1936, benefits from a unique location near the sea, surrounded by mountains, reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands. Its harsh climate, combined with ideal humidity, pure air, soft water, and sea breeze, gives the whisky a distinctive maritime character. Barrel maturation is marked by salty, peaty, and smoky notes, a legacy of traditional direct coal distillation that gives the spirits remarkable depth and complexity. Conversely, the Miyagikyo distillery, built in 1969 as Nikka's second iconic site, is located in a misty valley surrounded by mountains, at the confluence of two rivers of pure water. Impressed by the exceptional quality of the Nikkawa river water, a true natural jewel now serving as the main source, Taketsuru established a distillery producing a whisky with a noticeably different profile. The Miyagikyo Single Malt is distinguished by its soft, fruity, and slightly floral aromas, with peat much more discreet than that of Yoichi. It is distilled in steam-heated pot stills at low temperature, ensuring finesse and elegance.
