KARUIZAWA - Spirits of Asama - 1999 & 2000 - Number One Drinks - Bottled 2012 - 48%
\nFounded in 1955 by the Mercian company, Karuizawa is an iconic distillery located at the foot of Mount Asama, in the charming town of Miyota, Japan. Renowned for its strict adherence to traditional methods, this small distillery crafted an exceptional Single Malt using the Golden Promise barley variety, imported directly from Scotland, thus ensuring superior quality. Most of its production was long-aged in Sherry casks, giving the whisky rich and complex notes, although Karuizawa also used some Bourbon casks to bring a unique aromatic diversity. In 2000, the distillery ceased all production, then closed permanently in 2011, marking the end of an era for Japanese whisky enthusiasts. Since then, the company Number One Drinks, now known as Elixir Distillers, holds the remaining casks and continues the legend of Karuizawa through rare and vintage bottlings, offering collectors and enthusiasts the opportunity to savor an exceptional and historic whisky.
\nThis prestigious expression was carefully selected for the portfolio of Speciality Drinks, a company founded in 1999 by brothers Sukhinder and Raj Singh, also creators of the famous online sales site Whisky Exchange the same year. In 2017, Speciality Drinks evolved into Elixir Distillers, strengthening its position as a leader in the trade of rare and high-end spirits.
