Les Frères de la Côte is a unique collective of importers and bottlers specializing in products exclusively transported by traditional sailing ships. Founded in 2015 by two experienced French captains, Raphaël and François Mangin, this company quickly established itself as a leading player in sustainable navigation and eco-responsible importation. Since 2017, the Frères de la Côte rums have been bottled at their warehouse located in Saint-Étienne, in the heart of the Loire, combining artisanal know-how with quality standards. Their flagship vessel, the Très Hombres, is a 32-meter brigantine without an engine, capable of carrying up to 35 tons of cargo. Since 2010, this prestigious sailing ship has completed 12 transatlantic voyages from its home port in the Netherlands, promoting an environmentally respectful transport model. Furthermore, in 2019, the creation of the company La Compagnie des Frères de la Côte enabled the revival of the majestic voilier Zeehaen, a brigantine over 45 meters long with a capacity of 120 tons. This ambitious project aims to develop a true fleet of cargo sailing ships, offering an ecological and sustainable alternative to traditional maritime transport, while reinforcing the human and environmental values linked to transatlantic trade.
The Old Rum from Frères de la Côte Isla Bonita is an exceptional organic rum originating from La Palma, one of the preserved islands of the Canaries. This precious spirit comes from the artisanal distillery Aldea, owned by the Quevedo family, and is made from pure fermented sugarcane juice, then distilled without any additives. Its transport was carried out aboard the Très Hombres, where it underwent a dynamic aging of 6 months in French and ex-Spanish oak barrels, participating in a unique maturation process at sea. This rum is distinguished by its Brut de Fût character and its integration into an innovative 15-tier Solera system, guaranteeing a complex aromatic richness. Back in Saint-Étienne, the rum then rests for 8 months in Pedro Ximenez barrels in their cellar for a perfect finish. This Second Edition is a true rare treasure, limited to only 416 bottles, for discerning lovers of exceptional spirits.
