The Shinshu distillery is part of the Hombo Shuzo company (also known as Hombo Brewing Co.) and produces exceptional whisky under the renowned Mars Whisky brand. Founded in 1872 by Honbu Matsusa at an altitude of 800 meters in the village of Miyata, located on the Japanese island of Kyushu, this distillery combines tradition and ancestral know-how. In 1949, Hombo Shuzo obtained a license to produce whisky at the Kagoshima distillery before transferring its production activity to the Shinshu distillery, now recognized for the superior quality of its whiskies.
After a temporary pause in 1992 due to low global demand, production resumed in 2012 with renewed momentum. The flagship of this distillery is the Komagatake, an exceptional Single Malt whisky named after the most imposing of the surrounding mountains. At the same time, the Mars Maltage Cosmo, launched in July 2015, pays tribute to the unique setting of the distillery, evoking the starry sky visible from Mount Komagatake, a symbol of purity and authenticity.
This exclusive edition of Mars Komagatake, vintage 2017, was carefully distilled at the Shinshu distillery. It then aged elegantly in a single sherry hogshead cask (#2122) in the natural aging caves of Yakushima, an island renowned for its ideal climate favoring exceptional maturation.
