BOTRAN - Copper - Spiced Rum - 45%
The exceptional Botran rums are meticulously crafted in the heart of Guatemala, in the volcanic region of Retalhuleu, located in the south of the country. This area is renowned for the richness of its volcanic soils, giving the rums a unique character and an exceptional terroir. The Botran distillery is one of the few in the world to benefit from a Controlled Designation of Origin (AOC) – a prestigious distinction shared only with Martinique. This official recognition, obtained in 2013, highlights the passionate commitment of the Botran family to enhance and preserve this exceptional terroir.
The production of Botran rums is based on a rigorous traditional Guatemalan method. It begins with the production of virgin sugarcane honey, obtained by gently heating fresh juices to remove water by evaporation. Fermentation is a natural process, orchestrated by yeasts extracted from pineapples, bringing fruity and complex aromas. Distillation is then carried out in modern column stills that preserve the finesse of the rum. To perfect their maturation, the rums are transported to 2,300 meters altitude to cellars benefiting from a cooler climate, ensuring slow and harmonious aging conducive to aromatic development.
The aging follows a technique inspired by the famous Solera system, an ancestral method guaranteeing a rich and balanced flavor palette. The rums evolve in a blend of carefully selected barrels: ex-American Bourbon barrels (capacity 200 to 225 liters, re-toasted to enrich aromas), Oloroso Sherry barrels (500 to 600 liters), as well as Port barrels (250 liters). This combination gives Botran rums an unparalleled aromatic complexity and depth.
Botran Cobre stands out as an exceptional spiced rum perfectly balanced, enhanced by a delicate blend of ginger, cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon. This rum comes from a meticulous blend of vintages aged 5 to 20 years, all refined according to the Solera system. Its aging in American whiskey barrels (both neutral and medium toasted) and Port barrels gives it a rich aromatic palette where spices harmoniously mingle with woody and fruity notes.
