KOPKE - Porto - Tawny - Colheita Port - Vintage 2011
Kopke is recognized as the oldest Port House, founded in 1638 in Portugal. Created by Nicolau Köpke, then general consul of the Hanseatic League, Kopke quickly distinguished itself by exporting its first wines to Northern Europe only two years after Nicolau Köpke settled in Portugal from Hamburg. In 1781, the Kopke House acquired an estate in the prestigious Douro region, establishing itself as a key player in Port production, with unique expertise mainly dedicated to fortified and exceptional wines.
Colheita Ports are vintage Ports from a single harvest year. They are carefully aged in wooden barrels for many years, until bottling after being rigorously tasted and approved by a committee of experts, which guarantees their quality and exceptional character.
The 2011 Colheita from Kopke is blended from Touriga Nacional (25%), Touriga Franca (25%), Tinta Roriz (25%), and Tinta Barroca (25%), four emblematic native grape varieties of the Douro valley. The grapes, hand-harvested, are carefully destemmed and trodden before traditional maceration in lagares, allowing the extraction of aromas and color. Fermentation continues until the optimal sugar level is reached, then a grape spirit is added to stop fermentation and fortify the wine, following the classic Port method. This 2011 Colheita shows a residual sugar richness of 100 g/L, giving it a beautiful creaminess and remarkable aromatic complexity.
Grape varieties: 25% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca, 25% Tinta Roriz, 25% Tinta Barroca
