Quinta do Portal - Tawny - 30 years
Quinta do Portal is located in the prestigious wine region of the Douro, in the heart of Portugal, globally recognized for its superior quality wines. This family-owned and independent estate specializes in producing typical Douro wines, notably the famous Port wines, as well as aromatic Moscatels and extra virgin olive oil. Founded in the early 1990s on the historic Quinta dos Muros estate, which has belonged to the Mansilha family for four generations, the house continues a tradition of viticultural excellence that combines ancestral know-how with sustainable innovation.
The vineyards of Quinta do Portal are cultivated according to rigorous sustainable agriculture criteria, ensuring optimal preservation of the local ecosystem and exceptional grape quality. In May 2022, the estate took a major step towards energy transition by installing photovoltaic panels covering 50% of its electricity needs, thus highlighting its strong commitment to the environment. Furthermore, during the harvest, the emitted CO2 is recovered and reused to inert the lagares and tanks during fermentation, limiting the carbon footprint and optimizing oenological processes.
The Tawny 30 years is carefully crafted from the traditional and emblematic grape varieties of the Douro: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, and Touriga Nacional. Fermentation is stopped by adding grape spirit, which gives this complex wine a notable richness in residual sugar, ranging between 80 and 120 g/L. This subtle balance between sweetness and acidity makes this exceptional Port unique. The aging is then done in old oak barrels, where the wine matures patiently for decades, developing intense aromas, great finesse, and remarkable depth before bottling.
