Quinta do Portal is located in the heart of the prestigious Douro wine region in Portugal, a land globally recognized for the exceptional quality of its wines. This family-owned and artisanal estate specializes in the authentic production of Douro wines, Port wines, Moscatel, as well as high-quality extra virgin olive oil. Founded in the early 1990s on Quinta dos Muros, a property ancestrally held by the Mansilha family for over a century, this house continues a winemaking tradition spanning more than 4 generations. The vineyards of Quinta do Portal are rigorously cultivated according to strict sustainable agriculture standards, ensuring deep respect for the environment and optimal preservation of local biodiversity. In May 2022, photovoltaic panels were installed, now providing 50% of the property's electrical energy, illustrating a strong commitment to renewable energy. Additionally, during the harvest, emitted CO2 is cleverly recovered and reused during fermentation to inert the lagares and tanks, thus reducing the estate's overall carbon footprint.
The Fine Tawny is made from the traditional and emblematic grape varieties of the Douro: Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, and Touriga Nacional. This typical Port wine has its fermentation stopped by the addition of a high-quality grape spirit, resulting in a naturally sweet, concentrated wine with a controlled residual sugar level between 80 and 120 g/L. Aging takes place over about 3 years in neutral barrels, imparting subtle aromas, complexity, and a delicate richness on the palate. This ancient aging method guarantees a perfect balance between sweetness, acidity, and tannic structure, producing an exceptional product ideal for enjoying as an aperitif or alongside indulgent desserts.
