Quinta do Noval - Porto Tawny 40 Years Old
Quinta do Noval is an undisputed reference among prestigious Porto houses, founded in 1715. It stands out for its unique location in the heart of the Douro Valley in Portugal, whereas most traditional Porto houses are located in Vila Nova de Gaia. The estate is named after its famous vineyard, Quinta do Noval, renowned for the remarkable quality of its wines. The estate's grape varieties highlight the noble grapes of the Douro such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cao, and Sousão. The vines, rooted in schist and clay soils, benefit from optimal exposure; however, the exposed rock makes cultivation demanding and conducive to a high-quality artisanal production. A significant replanting program was launched in 1994, allowing each plot to be matched with the grape variety best suited to its terroir, altitude, and sun exposure. A treasure of the estate: a small plot of ungrafted vines, survivors of the 19th-century phylloxera crisis. Since 1993, Christian Seely has been leading Quinta do Noval while overseeing several prestigious European vineyards through the AXA Millésimes group, which also owns renowned estates such as Château Pichon-Longueville, Château Pibran, and Disznókő in Hungary. This splendid Noval Tawny 40 years represents the pinnacle of the tawny style. It is made using the traditional method: foot treading of the grapes to intensely release aromas, followed by maceration in the lagares – the iconic stone vats of the Douro – ensuring optimal flavor extraction during fermentation. This rare Port is the result of a meticulous blend of exceptional old Ports from different vintages, reaching an average age of 40 years, patiently aged in oak barrels within the estate’s cellars. Each sip reveals the full richness of the work passed down through generations, offering aromatic complexity, unique finesse, and remarkable persistence on the palate. Ideal to enjoy as a digestif or alongside refined desserts, this 40-year-old Tawny Port is a must-have for enthusiasts and collectors.
