ARDBEG - Kelpie - Ardbeg Day 2017 - 46%
Ardbeg is an iconic distillery located on the wild isle of Islay, in Scotland, renowned for its whiskies among the most peated and authentic on the market. Founded in 1798, it is one of the oldest distilleries on this legendary island, which enjoys international fame for the power and aromatic complexity of its Single Malts. Ardbeg also distinguished itself through a unique innovation: it was the first whisky in the world to travel to space, sending part of its production to the International Space Station in 2011 to study the effects of weightlessness on the aging and maturation of the spirit.
Since its first release in 1815, the same year its prestigious neighbor Laphroaig was also established, Ardbeg has imposed its unique style. After decades marked by ownership changes and financial difficulties, the distillery closed its doors in 1981 before gradually reviving from 1989, with full production resuming in 1997 under the Glenmorangie group. Today, it is an integral part of the French luxury group LVMH, consolidating its status as an icon of peated and refined whisky.
Ardbeg's two stills produce about one million liters of pure alcohol annually, exclusively delivered as exceptional Single Malt. The aging mainly relies on Bourbon casks, complemented by a selected range of Sherry casks, offering a rich and balanced aromatic palette, with an intense but elegant peated power. Unlike some other Islay whiskies, Ardbeg stands out by having less marine subtlety and a smoky, spicy, and delicately sweet profile that captivates connoisseurs.
Ardbeg Kelpie is the 2017 edition specially designed to celebrate Ardbeg Day, a day dedicated to enthusiasts worldwide. Inspired by the mysterious marine legends of the region, this Single Malt is matured in unique virgin casks made from oak grown and felled near the Black Sea. This specificity gives this whisky remarkable depth and richness, perfectly harmonized with the classic American oak nuances emblematic of Ardbeg.
