Founded in 1895 as a fine grocery and wine and spirits merchant in Elgin<\/strong>, in the heart of northeast Scotland, the company was taken over in 1915 by former apprentice John Urquhart<\/strong> who took full control. Today, more than a century later, Gordon & MacPhail continues its family tradition with unique expertise combining heritage and innovation in the whisky world.<\/p>
The Speyburn distillery<\/strong> is strategically located in Rothes, in the prestigious Speyside<\/strong> region, globally recognized for its refined and elegant whiskies. Founded in 1897 by John Hopkins<\/strong>, the distillery was established on a site chosen for the exceptional purity of its water from the Granty Burn, a precious tributary of the Spey River. At the start of production, it lacked doors and windows, forcing workers to brave a violent snowstorm, dressed in overcoats and mittens, under the passionate direction of the first master distiller, John Smith. Despite these extreme conditions, the founders' ambition was realized with the production of a single cask in the first year. Today, Speyburn belongs to the Inver House Distillers Limited group, ensuring consistent and authentic quality.<\/p>
