The Nc’Nean distillery is ideally located in Drimnin, on the west coast of the majestic Highlands of Scotland. Pronounced Nook-knee-anne, Nc’Nean is derived from Neachneohain, an ancient Gaelic goddess revered as the Queen of Spirits and a passionate protector of the wild nature. The ambitious project to build this distillery on the historic Drimnin Estate was conceived by the Lewis family in 2012, nearly ten years after their acquisition and patient restoration of this ancestral property. In 2013, work progressed rapidly in the farm buildings adjacent to Drimnin House, with Annabel Thomas, the family’s daughter, leaving her London position to take the helm as CEO of the new company Drimnin Distillery Ltd. Supported by two fundraising rounds, including a dedicated government grant, the project came to fruition in March 2017. Nc’Nean’s mission is clear: to craft exceptional whisky in perfect harmony with sustainable environment. They select only certified organic Scottish barley, operate a distillery powered by renewable energy, and proudly recycle up to 99.97% of their waste, making Nc’Nean a flagship example of ecological innovation in the whisky world.
This Huntress edition embodies the ongoing quest for discovery, innovation, and exploration of unique aromatic profiles in modern whisky making. The 2022 edition stands out for revolutionary experiments with yeasts. This Single Malt was produced from an unprecedented blend of 3 distinct yeast strains, including one typically used in rum fermentation (anchor, fermentis, and rum). Distilled in August 2018, this treasure then matured mainly in STR red wine casks* (61%) and 39% in ex-Bourbon casks, bringing richness and complexity to its flavor profile. Bottled from March 17, 2022, this exceptional creation is limited to 4,447 numbered bottles, ensuring its exclusivity and authenticity.
