EDRADOUR - 14 years - Grand Arôme Savanna Rum Cask - Vintage 2008 - 60%
Edradour is an iconic whisky distillery of the Scottish Highlands, nestled in the charming village of Moulin, near Pitlochry. Considered the smallest traditional Scottish whisky distillery, it is also the last small farm producer dating back to the Victorian era still in operation. This unique distillery is renowned not only for the exceptional quality of its whiskies but also for its surprising historical link with the New York mafia. Founded in 1825 under the name Glenforres Distillery by a cooperative of local farmers, Edradour has preserved its authenticity throughout the centuries. In 1938, Irving Haim, agent of the famous mafia boss Frank Costello, became the main shareholder. Upon Haim's death in 1976, the distillery was sold to an American-Australian consortium, then integrated in 1982 into a subsidiary of the Pernod Ricard group. Since 2002, it has belonged to Signatory Vintage Ltd. Edradour maintains many traditional techniques, with old and rare equipment: for example, the wort from the mash tun is cooled using the last Morton commercial refrigerator cooled only by cold water, and no production process is computer-controlled.
This limited edition of Edradour was distilled precisely on April 18, 2008, and aged for 14 years in a single cask (Single Cask #91). This exceptional whisky benefited from a rare finishing in a cask that previously contained Grand Arôme Savanna rum, bringing delicately spicy and exotic notes. Only 490 bottles were produced, making this expression a true rare treasure, sought after by connoisseurs and collectors of premium whisky.
