The Shinshu Distillery is an integral part of the Hombo Shuzo group (also known as Hombo Brewing Co.), and the whiskies it produces are marketed under the prestigious Mars Whisky brand. Founded in 1872 by Honbu Matsusa, this historic house is ideally located at 800 meters altitude in the picturesque village of Miyata, on the Japanese island of Kyushu. In 1949, Hombo Shuzo obtained an official license for whisky production with its Kagoshima distillery, which was later transferred to the Shinshu distillery, now synonymous with excellence in Japanese whisky production.
Despite a context of low demand leading to a temporary suspension of production in 1992, the distillery was revived in 2012 to once again offer its unique creations to connoisseurs. The flagship product remains undoubtedly the Komagatake, a Single Malt named after the imposing mountain that dominates the region. Furthermore, the Mars Maltage Cosmo, launched in July 2015, pays tribute to the exceptional environment of the distillery, evoking by its name the starry night that can be admired from Mount Komagatake, a perfect balance between nature and tradition.
This whisky is the 4th<\/sup> edition of the Komagatake Yakushima Aging series, born from a unique journey between the Shinshu distillery and the maturation site of Yakushima. Nestled in the heart of enchanting landscapes made of millennial cedar forests, crystal-clear rivers, and proximity to the sea, this exceptional natural environment gives the whisky an aromatic profile of remarkable complexity and finesse, a true gustatory signature of this preserved region.
